Mikel Arteta struck a brilliant late winner as Arsenal dealt Manchester City's Barclays Premier League title hopes a huge blow.
The Spaniard rifled in a low drive from 25 yards on 87 minutes to secure a victory which leaves City eight points behind rivals Manchester United with six matches left to play.
Arsenal had come closer to scoring during play with Robin van Persie twice seeing headers come back off the woodwork, while Joe Hart tipped a Theo Walcott effort on to the post.
But Arteta's late goal secured an eighth win in nine League matches for the third-placed Gunners - while City's miserable afternoon was complete as Mario Balotelli was sent off for a second yellow card in the dying minutes.
