On this day - 5 October 2008 – Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Hull City

Eight days after travelling down to North London and beating Arsenal 2-1 at Emirates Stadium, Phil Brown’s Hull City newly promoted side returned to the capital to stun Spurs.

A ninth-minute free-kick from Geovanni, who had also scored with a long-range effort at Arsenal, was enough to secure the three points against Juande Ramos’s side, who had hit the woodwork through Gareth Bale.

"You could take the statistics and say from an objective point of view that Tottenham possibly deserved something," Brown said. "But from a subjective point of view, the best chances came for Hull and I like good defending.

"We defended manfully again and I am delighted with our first clean sheet. I love 1-0 wins. It's a fantastic result for a defensive coach."
