Premierleague.com rifles through the annals of the Barclays Premier League to find significant events.
After suffering relegation with Southampton, Kevin Phillips, 31, was snapped up by Aston Villa as manager David O’Leary sought to add more firepower to his attack.
"It's a boost as a player to know the manager rates you so highly"
"I'm delighted to be back in the Premiership and to come to such a great club is a good move for me,” Phillips said. "I know the manager has been interested in signing me for some time and when it became clear Villa were still in for me this summer, there was no doubt in my mind. I didn't want to go anywhere else."
"It's a boost as a player to know the manager rates you so highly and hopefully I can justify that faith with a few goals here next season."
Phillips made good on that by scoring after just four minutes of his debut against Bolton Wanderers, but injury restricted him to only 23 matches that season and only four goals, although one was enough for Villa to claim a derby win against Birmingham City at St Andrews.
At the start of the next season, Phillips was sold to West Bromwich Albion.
