Midfielder born on Christmas Day helped Leeds win title in 1991/92 before becoming a Liverpool folk hero
Premierleague.com rifles through the annals of the Barclays Premier League to find significant events.
Gary McAllister was born in Motherwell on 25 December 1964. The midfielder first played in the Barclays Premier League for Leeds United, with whom he won the last league title before the formation of the Premier League.
After 151 appearances for the South Yorkshire club he joined Coventry City where he played four season and 119 league matches. His biggest contribution in the Barclays Premier League probably came at Liverpool, where he played only two seasons and 51 league matches but scored five goals, most famously, an injury-time 40-yard free-kick in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
His displays for Liverpool helping them into the top four and winning three cups (League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Cup) entered him into Anfield folklore.
