Premierleague.com rifles through the annals of the Barclays Premier League to find significant events.
When Ruud van Nistelrooy scored in the 2-1 victory for Manchester United against Newcastle United in the second match of the 2003/04 season it was the 10th match in a row in the Barclays Premier League that the Dutchman had got a goal.
The United forward had started the streak against Fulham on 22 March 2003 – notching a hat-trick in a 3-0 home win – and had broken the record of goals in eight consecutive matches that he had set in his first season at Old Trafford. This had surpassed the League record of seven set by Mark Stein of Chelsea in February 1994.
The Dutchman was crowned the top Barclays Premier League goalscorer in the 2002/3 season with 25 goals in 34 matches. During his five seasons at Manchester United, van Nistelrooy made 150 Barclays Premier League appearances and scored 95 goals.
