American goalkeeper Brad Friedel's move to Liverpool was confirmed after the Barclays Premier League club won their appeal to have his work permit granted.
The 26-year-old United States international moved to Anfield after a year and a half with Columbus Crew, during which time he was named Major League Soccer's goalkeeper of the year. He had joined Crew from Galatasaray where, under the management of former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness, he had helped them win the Turkish Cup.
Friedel spent nearly three years at Anfield but failed to establish himself as first choice and in 2000 rejoined Souness at Blackburn Rovers. He played more than 300 games for the Ewood Park club in nearly eight years before moving on to Aston Villa in 2008 and then Tottenham Hotspur in 2011.
Now 42, Friedel is still plying his trade for Spurs and has amassed 450 Barclays Premier League appearances in 16 successful years in England.
