Premierleague.com rifles through the annals of the Barclays Premier League to find significant events.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew expressed his delight after signing striker Demba Ba from West Ham United on a three-year contract.
Ba scored seven goals in 13 Barclays Premier League appearances for the Hammers after joining from German club Hoffenheim in the January transfer window.
"Demba made a great impression at West Ham last season and is a great signing for the club," said Pardew. "He has pace, excellent technical ability and is good in the air and moreover he has a great passion to play for Newcastle United."
Ba added: "This is a great club and a very good team so to sign here was an easy choice to make. I know a lot of famous strikers have played here before and I will do my best to win matches for the club."
The Senegal international had a superb debut season for the Magpies - netting 16 Barclays Premier League goals, including a couple of hat-tricks, as Newcastle finished fifth in the table.
His prolific form continued the following season with 13 goals in 20 Barclays Premier League matches making him the joint second top scorer in the division at the turn of the year.
That form attracted attention and he joined European champions Chelsea in the first week of January 2013. Ba has made 16 full and 17 substitute Barclays Premier League appearances in 18 months for the Londoners.
