Match report

First-half goals from Steven Pienaar, Marouane Fellaini and Nikica Jelavic meant Everton followed up their victory over Manchester United in emphatic style against Aston Villa.

Karim El Ahmadi scored a consolation effort but it came after defender Ciaran Clark was sent off after 58 minutes for a professional foul in a first home game to forget for Villa manager Paul Lambert.

Everton needed only three minutes to silence the home fans who had given a rousing reception to Lambert with a superb strike from Pienaar.

Steven Naismith laid the ball back into the path of the South African who curled a 20-yarder past Shay Given into the top corner of the net. Villa started to come more into the game territorially but then went two behind. Phil Jagielka floated over a right-wing cross which Fellaini headed past Given.

Everton found much space going forward and made it 3-0 a minute before half-time.

Baines delivered a left-wing cross and no one picked up Jelavic as he drilled a near-post shot past Given.

Lambert brought on Brett Holman for Nathan Delfouneso at half-time but Everton continued to threaten. To make matters worse for Villa, they were reduced to 10 men after 58 minutes. Clark brought down Jelavic as he bore down on goal and, as the last defender, was sent off for a professional foul.

Villa did score a consolation blue when a swerving long-range effort from El Ahmadi deceived Howard with 15 minutes remaining. Villa substitute Andreas Weimann hit a post in time added on but a second goal for the home side would not come.
