Striker Wayne Rooney scored from point-blank range to give England victory in Donetsk

England made sure of their place in the UEFA Euro 2012 quarter-finals as striker Wayne Rooney scored the winner against Ukraine.

The Manchester United star headed home from close range to give England a 1-0 victory which means they finished top of Group D.

England will play Italy on Sunday while France, who lost 2-0 to Sweden in their final match of the group, finished second and will face world champions Spain on Saturday.
