Van Persie closing in on goalscoring record

Arsenal captain needs three more goals before the end of the year to set a new record

Robin van Persie has scored 34 Barclays Premier League goals for Arsenal this year

Arsenal captain Robin van Persie says he is very happy to have scored so many goals this year.

Robin has scored 34 goals in the Barclays Premier League in 2011 to equal the Arsenal record that was set by Thierry Henry.

"It's a big honour because Thierry is probably the best player Arsenal ever had and to achieve that in a year is really special," Robin told Arsenal's website (arsenal.com).

If Robin can score three more goals in the matches against Wolves and QPR then he will set a new record for the most Premier League goals in a calendar year.
