Newcastle United have signed French striker Yoan Gouffran from Bordeaux.

The 26-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at St. James' Park for an undisclosed fee, and fills the spot left by Demba Ba, who recently left the club for Chelsea.

Gouffran told the club's official website that he felt great pride at signing for "one of the most famous teams in England" after spending more than four years with Bordeaux.

The striker is the third Frenchman to sign for the club in as many weeks following the arrival of Lille's Mathieu Debuchy and Montpellier's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
