Sunderland's Mignolet breaks his nose

Black Cats goalkeeper set to miss a number of games after surgery

Simon Mignolet signed for Sunderland in June 2010 from Belgian club Sint-Truiden

Sunderland will be without goalkeeper Simon Mignolet after he broke his nose during the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Belgian had surgery to repair the damage but Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is unsure when Mignolet will return to action.

"It's badly broken," said Bruce.

"He's had scans to check his jaw and cheekbones and teeth. The ball was fizzed in and Simon was brave enough to go for it."

Keiren Westwood is set to stand in for Mignolet as he recovers from his injury.
