Barcelona defender Marc Muniesa joins Stoke

21-year-old defender joins Stoke after winning U21 European Championships with Spain

Marc Muniesa made his debut for Barcelona when he was 17 years old

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has signed defender Marc Muniesa from Barcelona on a free transfer.

Muniesa, 21, helped Spain win the European Under-21 Championship this summer.

“Marc has been well-schooled by Barca,” Mark Hughes said. “Technically, he’s a very good player and I’ve no doubts he will be an excellent addition to our squad."

Muniesa was on the bench when Barcelona won the 2009 UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United.
