Luke Shaw commits to Southampton with 'long-term' deal

17-year-old full-back vows to continue his development with South Coast club

Luke Shaw has made 10 Barclays Premier League appearances for Saints this season

Luke Shaw has committed his future to Southampton after his emergence through the ranks at the South Coast club had led to reports linking him with a move away.

The 17-year-old left-back made his first Barclays Premier League appearance for the club in November, against West Bromwich Albion, and has gone on to start every match since.

"Southampton is the place to be for young kids like me," Shaw told the club’s official website. "I’m playing in the Premier League for the first team and that is all anyone wants to be doing, so I just want to carry on.

Southampton, who aim to bring 50% of youth players in to their first team in a five-year-plan, have lifted themselves off the bottom of the league since Shaw's breakthrough. Saints face Aston Villa, who are one place above them, on Saturday.
