Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has been in magnificent form so far this season

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has been named the Barclays Manager of the Month for October, with Arsenal striker Robin van Persie claiming the player award.

Mancini led City to four successive victories in a month that saw them thrash Blackburn 4-0, Aston Villa 4-1, Manchester United 6-1 and Wolves 3-1.

Van Persie, meanwhile, scored twice against both Sunderland and Stoke, before bagging a brilliant hat-trick at Stamford Bridge as Arsenal swept Chelsea aside 5-3.

The awards are made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and the fans.
