Rickie Lambert signs new deal at Southampton

Southampton forward Lambert extends his contract at the club until 2016

Rickie Lambert is the highest scoring English player in the Premier League this season

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert has signed a new contract at the club to the summer of 2016.

The 31-year-old has scored 13 goals in his first season in the Barclays Premier League, and he has scored more than any other English player in the league this season.

Lambert signed for Southampton in 2009 from Bristol Rovers and he has scored over 100 goals for the club. He helped Saints get promoted to the Premier League last season.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino said on the club's website: "Rickie Lambert is a very special player for Southampton Football club."
