Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has won the manager award 27 times

Chelsea star Juan Mata has been named the Barclays Player of the Month for October with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson being given the Manager of the Month award.

Mata, 24 has been in excellent form to help the Blues make an impressive start to the 2012/13 campaign.

"I'm very grateful for this award," said Mata after receiving the award for the first time. "It's very important to keep going and improve because I am still young. The most important thing is the team and I am always trying to do my best to help the team."

Sir Alex was named Manager of the Month for the 27th time on the 26th anniversary of him taking charge at Old Trafford.

"We've got a great set up here," he said. "I've got great staff and the players, of course. They are the reason I'm getting this award. There is no question about that. I am very pleased."
