Di Canio wants to win 'important' Barclays Asia Trophy

The Italian expects a test for his players before the new Barclays Premier League season

Sunderland manager Paulo Di Canio has stated his desire to win the Barclays Asia Trophy.

The tournament in Hong Kong begins for Sunderland on 24 July, when the Black Cats will play Tottenham Hotspur.

The Sunderland manager said: "It is obvious that we have come here to win the trophy because it is an important competition."

Di Canio, who has made eight signings so far this summer, also wants to test his new players. He said: "For the new players it will be a good test to find what level of difficulty we will find during the League."
