Germany international Mesut Ozil is Arsenal's record signing

Arsenal have signed Mesut Ozil for a club-record transfer fee from Real Madrid.

Ozil, who is 24 years old, has played for Germany 47 times. He is an attacking midfielder and he won the Spanish La Liga title while he was with Real Madrid.

"He is a great player, with proven quality at both club and international level," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. “We have watched and admired him for some time as he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player."

Arsenal also signed goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano on a season-long loan from Palermo. The 27-year-old has has played for Italy six times.

The two players will go into Arsenal's squad for the club's next Barclays Premier League match, away to Sunderland on Saturday 14 September.
