French star Hatem Ben Arfa joined Newcastle United from Marseille in January 2011

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has praised the performance of star Hatem Ben Arfa in the derby against Sunderland on Sunday.

The winger came on at half-time and produced an eye-catching display as Newcastle battled back from going a goal behind to draw 1-1.

"This guy is exceptional," said Alan Pardew. "He is special and we have got to get him on the pitch.

"I've got to find a way of getting him on the pitch to play like that, because that was his best 45 minutes."
