Steven Taylor kits out former Under-10s team

Steven Taylor will present kit to Cramlington U10s on the pitch before Newcastle-Wolves

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor will give his former boys club a gift they will never forget at the Sports Direct Arena on Saturday courtesy of the Premier League Players' Kit Scheme.

Magpies centre-back Taylor will present Cramlington Under-10s with a new kit ahead of Newcastle's Barclays Premier League match with Wolves.

"This is a fantastic initiative and all the lads are delighted to be behind it"

The Premier League and the Professional Footballers' Association launched the Players' Kit Scheme at the beginning of the season.

Each squad of Premier League players is donating £25,000 to provide Under-16 clubs, schools and youth organisations with free football kit and equipment.

The clubs have all designated a player, normally a home grown talent, to publicise their squad donation and Newcastle have selected the 26-year-old Taylor.

Cramlington was the first club Taylor played for and it was also where he was discovered for Newcastle. The scout who spotted him was John Carver, who is now assistant manager to Alan Pardew.

"This is a fantastic initiative and all the lads are delighted to be behind it," said Taylor. "For me, it's great to be supporting my old club as I know full well how much it will mean to them."

Cramlington U10s manager Graeme Slater added: "We're thrilled that Steven has decided to choose us and can't wait to get on to the pitch on Saturday to receive the kit from Steven.

"I can't begin to tell you how excited the boys are, but they're also extremely appreciative of Steven's generosity and of course the Premier League and PFA too."

Another 20 clubs, most local, but some in other parts of the country, will also benefit from the scheme later in the season, via the rest of the players in the Newcastle squad.
