Solskjaer 'feeling lucky' after Cardiff sign Eikrem

Ole Gunnar Solskjær says that he "feels lucky" after capturing his first signing as Cardiff City manager in the form of Magnus Wolff Eikrem, who has joined from Dutch Eredivisie club Heerenveen.

"He's a playmaker, a quarterback if you will, someone who likes to get on the ball and can see a pass"

The midfielder, who has been capped 14 times by Norway, has signed terms with the Bluebirds for an undisclosed fee ahead of their Barclays Premier League home match against West Ham United this Saturday.

Eikrem is well known to Solskjær after he started out as a 16-year-old at Manchester United and played for his compatriot when he was in charge of United's reserve team. The playmaker then followed Solskjær to Molde, where he helped his hometown club win back-to-back league titles, scoring six goals in 68 Norwegian Premier Division appearances.

The 23-year-old moved to Heerenveen in the summer, where he scored two goals in 10 league outings for the club lying fifth in the Dutch Eredivisie standings, before heeding yet another call from Solskjær to team up with him again and play in the Barclays Premier League.

"I've known Magnus for many years, having worked with him at Manchester United and then signing him for Molde," said Solskjær. "While I was there I had to sell him as he was our best player – and now I feel lucky to get to sign him again for Cardiff City for a reasonable price. I see this as money well spent.

"He's a playmaker, a quarterback if you will, someone who likes to get on the ball and can see a pass. He's technically very good, including set-pieces and has great vision. Magnus will add a lot to Cardiff City and will blend in very well with the midfielders in the squad."

Solskjær will be hoping the signing of Eikrem will help Cardiff build on their first victory under the 40-year-old. The Bluebirds overcame Newcastle United 2-1 in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend and are now striving to improve on their Barclays Premier League position of 17th – just one point above the relegation zone.
