How Man Utd winning FA Cup has decided the last European spots

After 37 weeks of incredible action, the 2023/24 Premier League reaches its conclusion on the final day this Sunday.

All 20 teams will kick off simultaneously with the Premier League title still hanging in the balance.

Beyond the title race, some of next year’s European qualification spots are still up for grabs.

One of the biggest storylines of the second half of the season has been Chelsea’s surge up the table. A 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday has vaulted them into the top six and on the cusp of securing European football for next season.

The Blues will face AFC Bournemouth at home on Sunday. Only three points behind fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur and with a better goal differential, a win and a Spurs loss could bump Chelsea into a top-five finish.

On the flip side, Newcastle United and Manchester United are still on their heels, only three points behind Mauricio Pochettino’s side, although the Red Devils have a far inferior goal difference.

If Chelsea can pick up a point against the Cherries, their return to Europe next season will be confirmed irrespective of results elsewhere.

Arsenal last won the title 20 years ago, and now find themselves in a position to do so again if they can beat Everton at home and West Ham United win at leaders Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta’s side have dominated Everton at home, only losing once in their last 27 matches against the Toffees (W22 D4). The Gunners have delivered in almost every moment that they needed to in the final stretch of this season, and they will need to win one more time to have a shot at the title.

While they can’t do it without some help from West Ham at the Etihad Stadium, Arteta has built an exciting, youthful squad that has put on a show all season and given Arsenal fans great optimism for the future.

No Premier League team has ever won four straight league titles. That could change after 90 minutes on Sunday when Man City face West Ham.

The three-time reigning champions hold a two-point lead over Arsenal, meaning that they only need to match the Gunners' result against Everton to secure Pep Guardiola his fourth straight title, and sixth in the last seven years.

After a season with some rocky patches, the Cityzens have turned into an unstoppable winning machine over the second half of the season, going on a 22-match unbeaten streak that finally vaulted them into first place after a win on Tuesday at Spurs.

The final obstacle is West Ham. City they have not lost to the Hammers in their last 16 matches (W13 D3). If history is on Guardiola's side again, City will rewrite the Premier League record books and be crowned champions again.
