The numbers that show this has been a season like no other

The Scout's panel of Fantasy Premier League experts give their thoughts on who to captain in Gameweek 38 ahead of the deadline at 14:30 BST on Sunday 19 May.

Gianni Buttice (@GianniButtice)

If I manage to find the funds to buy Mohamed Salah (£13.4m), I will be very tempted to give him the armband. I expect Liverpool to go big on Jurgen Klopp's farewell at Anfield. If Salah isn't in my team, I will likely resort to type and captain Erling Haaland (£14.3m).

Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily)

I'm backing Arsenal and Manchester City to both win on the final day, but with Everton looking tougher to beat lately, I'll back Haaland or Phil Foden (£8.5m) with the armband. For those chasing in mini-leagues, going against Haaland with Cole Palmer (£6.3m) or a Liverpool player looks the way to go.

Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg)

Haaland is the obvious pick, but Man City might look to control the game when they likely take the lead. Chelsea are looking to go out with a bang, so I might switch to Palmer in his last Chelsea game to impress England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2024.

Nick Harris (@WGTA_Nick)

I'm sticking with Haaland. City have a home match against a West Ham team who have nothing to play for, while the title race is going down to the wire, so a victory and strong performance will be key for City.

Pras (@Pras_FPL)

This comes down to mini-league/overall rank goals, but outside that, Man City do still have a great fixture on paper, which makes Haaland the sensible choice. Palmer, Salah, Son Heung-min (£10.0m) and Bukayo Saka (£8.9m) are all good alternatives, with upside. It just depends on your risk appetite.

Harry Daniels (@FPL_Harry

Gameweek 38 captaincy depends on what your goal is for the final day and whether you are chasing or protecting rank and mini-league positions. Haaland will be the popular favourite and for good reason, but Salah or Kai Havertz (£7.5m) could be interesting differentials. Mine is currently on Haaland.

Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)

Gameweek 38 will be the final opportunity to go for it this season. Obviously Haaland, Foden, Saka and Havertz will be in the conversation as they fight for the Premier League title. However, I am chasing and a differential captain might be on the cards. Palmer at home to AFC Bournemouth, where he has been outstanding this season, looks like a great shout. Of his 232 points since Gameweek 7, 135 of them have come at Stamford Bridge, where he is averaging 10.38 points per match.
